We are a group of people who have survived a stroke or brain damage resulting in aphasia. Aphasia is an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. Aphasia is caused by injury to the brain - most commonly from a stroke.
The agenda for our monthly meetings includes a short business meeting followed by an activity to build language skills, such as a guided discussion, a guest speaker or a movie. During the last part of the meeting the aphasia survivors and co-survivors meet separately to discuss a topic or to share concerns. After the meeting there is an opportunity to go to a local restaurant for dinner to continue socialization. Anyone experiencing aphasia and/or their co-survivor(s) is welcome at our meetings.
We meet from 5:30pm to 7:00pm on the first Monday of the month at:
The Auditorium Room 170 (in the Medical Building next door)
5741 Bee Ridge Road
Sarasota, FL 34233
